State Parks names Ty Smith as Director for the California State Railroad Museum

California State Parks has announced Ty Smith as museum director for the California State Railroad Museum, one of the world’s premier railway museums that welcomes more than 600,000 visitors per year. As museum director, Smith is responsible for managing the California State Railroad Museum, Sacramento Southern Railroad, Old Sacramento State Historic Park and the historic Southern Pacific Shops. Smith’s new role is effective on Apr. 1, 2017.  

“Ty’s extensive knowledge, background and experience working in the museum community coupled with his passion for history and interpretation makes him uniquely qualified for this key position in California’s state park system,” said Capital District Superintendent Matthew Bellah. “California State Parks working in partnership with the Foundation, and Ty’s visionary leadership will help guide these prized rail units forward at a very exciting time for Sacramento.”

Coinciding with the start of the New Year, the Midtown Association’s PBID (Property & Business Improvement District) officially expanded to include the Alhambra corridor. The Midtown Association (MA) now provides a variety of services for a 92-block area from 16th to Alhambra and from the Governor’s Mansion to the new Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op.

Committed to making Midtown the center for culture, creativity, and vibrancy in Sacramento's urban core, the Midtown Association is proud to announce an employment partnership with PRIDE Industries that will further increase and enhance the already successful "Clean & Safe" program throughout the popular district. Coinciding with the start of 2017, the footprint of the Midtown Association's coverage area will expand to 92 total blocks, also including the Alhambra corridor.

Health & Human Service Agency hosts job fair June 23; prep event June 6

More than 40 employers will gather in Woodland on June 23 to offer jobs to those seeking employment.  Prior to that, on June 6, the Yolo County’s Health & Human Services Agency will be available to help job seekers prepare for the job fair.

Employment services experts will be on hand on June 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Yolo County Health & Human Services Agency, located at 25 N. The Midtown Business Association (MBA) recently received approval by stakeholders to renew the PBID (Property & Business Improvement District) for another 10 years. In addition, the Midtown PBID coverage area will expand to include the neighboring Alhambra corridor starting in 2017.  With the expanded footprint, MBA will service the Midtown area from 16th to Alhambra and from the Governor’s Mansion to the new Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op.

La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries Expanding Staff in Showrooms; Hiring Up to 15 New Associates

The local owners of La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries are expanding staff in their greater Sacramento area showrooms and currently have immediate openings for up to 15 new sales professional/associate designer positions.  Positions are open in their Sacramento, West Sacramento, Roseville, Elk Grove and Gold River stores.  This staff expansion effort will help the local company ramp up for 2016.

“As the economy continues to improve, our business continues to grow and we’re especially excited for 2016 when we will begin a series of renovations in our already beautiful showrooms,” said Jim Reego, co-owner of seven La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries stores in Northern California.
