Assemblyman Cooley Honors Mark & Monica’s Pizza as

2015 Small Business of the Year

RANCHO CORDOVA – On Wednesday, June 10th, Assemblyman Ken Cooley (D-Rancho Cordova) honored Lauren Brooks, Owner of Mark & Monica’s Pizza in Carmichael as the 8th Assembly District 2015 Small Business of the Year for California Small Business Day in Sacramento.  The event was held at the Sacramento Convention Center in Midtown, giving this family an opportunity to be acknowledged on a statewide stage during the daylong “Salute to Small Business.”

Lauren Brooks, daughter of original owners, Mark and Monica took over the family pizza business in 2014. Lauren practically grew up in the pizza parlor where she learned the special recipes that have defined Mark & Monica’s Family Pizza as Carmichael’s premiere place for family gatherings.  Lauren has successfully navigated the business through a tough recession, a devastating fire and a building remodel.  Her skills for running a business and maintaining the family spirit will continue to lead Lauren and her family members to a prosperous success that her parents started over 27 years ago.

“It is an honor for me to celebrate Carmichael’s Mark & Monica’s Pizza for the Small Business of the Year award”, said Assemblyman Ken Cooley. “For more than 25 years families from Carmichael and beyond have continued to return and enjoy the atmosphere and a good meal. It is local mom & pop businesses like Mark & Monica’s that keep our communities strong and vibrant.”

Mark & Monica’s Pizza was one of approximately 80 small business owners honored out of 3.3 million in the State of California.  The program for the day consisted of three parts, with registration and exhibit areas opening at 8:00AM followed by speakers in the morning session. The luncheon, which was the highlight of the day, is the stage for the presentation of the statewide honorees.  The event is sponsored by 25 small business organizations and chambers.

Assemblyman Ken Cooley represents the 8th Assembly District which includes the communities of Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Rancho Murieta, Rosemont, Wilton and other portions of unincorporated Sacramento County.   For more information, please visit http://asmdc.org/members/a08/
