California State Parks and Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) are proud to present an interactive, fun and festive “Hands on History: A Simple Emigrant Christmas” event on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Renovations of Mill St Pier have begun

Renovations on the historic Mill St. Pier in the City’s Bridge District are underway! In the 1930’s the pier was operated by National Rice Mills to support a milling facility, but has been unused in for many years due to safety issues.

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long. Light up the a season with holiday cheer

One of the region’s favorite holiday spectaculars is making a triumphant return this year, and it promises to be bigger and better than ever. The 8th annual Macy’s Theatre of Lights will once again feature a live-action telling of the Christmas favorite, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Theatre of Lights is presented by the Old Sacramento Department of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership in cooperation with Downtown Sacramento Foundation (DSF), the City of Sacramento, Old Sacramento merchants, and, of course, Macy’s.

Statewide plastic bag ban in full effect

The California law, Proposition 67, is in effect and most grocery and convenience stores will no longer be providing single-use, plastic carry-out bags to customers. Instead, these stores may provide a reusable grocery bag or recycled paper bag to a customer at the point of sale at a charge of at least 10 cents.
